Info

Imagine Daft Punk and Genesis getting lost in a fog of birdsong, rain, and guitar feedback. Somewhere in a mirage between Radiohead and Air. Somewhere between dream and dance floor. That’s where millhope lives.

The project by Cologne-based musician Thomas Mühlhoff conceives of electronics not as a machine, but as an organism. Synthesizers breathe, guitars shimmer, drums roll like distant thunderstorms. Nothing is smooth, nothing is clear-cut.

Truth and Dare, the debut album, is not a soundtrack for background listening. It demands closeness, draws you into hypnotic loops, opens up spaces between nostalgia and new beginnings. Sometimes introspective, sometimes euphoric, always with an underlying restlessness that drives it forward.

Live, millhope transforms depending on the setting: solo, focused and minimalistic – or with a band (Christoph Hübner, bass / Daniel McLaine, drums), powerful and energetic. There is always the feeling that something real is happening, unpredictable and close.

“An instrumental, intimate, and inspiring flow between space pop, downbeat, and chillwave envelops us on this fluid debut album from Cologne-based electronica act Millhope.” (Tonspion)

“From the very first note, Truth and Dare creates an immersive atmosphere. Millhope demonstrates an excellent sense of mood and elegantly combines electronic elements with organic textures.” (Zoomlab)

“Carried by blurred synths, haunting guitars, driving drums, deep bass, and mysterious field recordings, the album transports us to retrofuturistic worlds in a distant and majestic cosmos between reality and relativity.” (Fazemag)

“Synths blend perfectly with washed-out guitars, creating a once-in-a-lifetime listening experience.” (magneticmag)

“Creamy electro and sound castles combined with catchy keyboard melodies, relaxed grooves, and many small but fine musical surprises.” (musikreviews.de)
